The Amsterdam metropolitan area has the largest number of expats in the Netherlands. And with a good reason. Amsterdam has much to offer: a raging nightlife, world-class museums and theatres, excellent public transport and international schools, to name just a few things.
In Amsterdam, the districts surrounding the city centre are the most popular with expats. Amstelkwartier, a new district on the Amstel river, is a prime example of this. With the heart of Amsterdam just around the corner, Amstelkwartier's residents have the best of both worlds: the hustle and bustle of city life and a green and tranquil living environment. Excellent connections to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport bring other European cities and the rest of the world within easy reach. It takes only 20 minutes to get from Amstelkwartier to Schiphol Plaza.
Amsterkwartier's many benefits

From excellent restaurants with sunny waterfront terraces, boat trips on the Amstel river, two beautiful parks where children can play soccer to green river banks with plenty of spaces to wade into the water for a swim on hot summer days - Amstelkwartier is a treasure trove of leisure. Amstelkwartier has international primary and secondary school options nearby. Located at the A.J. Ernststraat, the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) offers international education to 1,400 students. The school is currently located at a temporary site, but in 2022 it will move to a new state-of-the-art campus. The new school location is easily accessible and only a 15-minute bicycle ride from Somerparc aan de Amstel. There is also a campus at the Darlingstraat in the Amsterdam-Zuidoost district, which is also 15 minutes by bicycle from Amstelkwartier. The Amsterdam International Community School is an international primary and secondary school offering English-language education.
Exercise and enjoyment
Fancy a workout? Amstelkwartier has various gyms too choose from. Trend Fitness is a small and personal boutique gym that provides training based on your personal requirements, goals and quality of life standards. Is going to the gym not for you? There are countless green areas and spots for outdoor workouts and sports activities. You can go for a high-energy run in the park, or if you prefer to take things more slowly, a jog along the Amstel river. There are also plenty of things to do on the water, from stand up paddle (SUP) boarding to rowing in the wee hours of the morning. The possibilities are endless. Amstelkwartier is the perfect place for those who enjoy the good life. Are you a fish lover? Try a scrumptious seafood platter at the George Marina. Fancy a family Sunday brunch?
